Basically, you want to use the widest-bottomed pan that you have available. Here we go with the 12" iron skillet again. With the slices, go as deep as you can without hitting the bone - mine were probably ¼" - ⅜" deep. Prep work is really easy and just involves making three slices on each side and seasoning inside and out with salt and pepper. If you don't scale fish at home, make sure to ask them to do it at the store. The mix bakes for 20 minutes until the fish is ready to go in. The veggies are all mixed together then put into a pan lined with parchment paper. Very tasty! It's similar to, but not a traditional gremolata because we used oil and didn't use lemon zest. Here's the herb topping - a mix of garlic, capers, parsley, red pepper flakes, and a small amount of EVOO. These are roughly chopped and tossed in - you guessed it - EVOO. Asparagus, onion, olives, bell peppersįinally, we have a mix of asparagus, yellow onion, Kalamata olives, and bell peppers. Again, cut in half and tossed with EVOO and S&P. The variety of colors go great with this dish. These guys are halved then tossed with EVOO and thyme. See? I told you some would be used with potatoes. Look at the handy-work! Halved potatoes with olive oil and thyme To start out, Quay cut a bunch of thyme sprigs that will be used with potatoes. If you're feeling famished, definitely cook two. This one is just over a pound and is perfect for two people along with sides. Vermilion snappers are smaller than reds, and they have huge eyes. So be dapper and get yerself some snapper! Vermilion snapper This is a one-plate dish you don't want to miss. And in no time, we had a beautiful whole Vermilion snapper on hand (on sale for $8/pound!) along with fresh herbs, potatoes, capers, asparagus, and a few other things that we'll get to later. We actually wanted branzino, but there were none to be had. Though she's also a one-plate fan, Leela doesn't believe in sharing. This weekend, we knew we wanted to cook a whole fish, but didn't know what the hell else was gonna happen. We love one-plate dishes and often cook with the intent to share instead of plating separately. Print Recipe Whole roasted Vermilion snapper - yum!.

It’s very possible that programs can be biased if you don’t train them correctly. AI algorithms help grade the ETS’s GRE and other standardized tests. Subscribe to Reset on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.Īrielle Duhaime-Ross spoke with Aoife Cahill, a managing senior research scientist at Educational Testing Service. In addition to Feathers, you’ll hear from Utah parent David Hart Aoife Cahill, a managing senior research scientist at Educational Testing Service and Vox reporter Sigal Samuel. Below, we’ve also shared a lightly edited transcript of the episode. Listen to the entire discussion on this episode of Reset. And once those algorithms are built, explains Reset host Arielle Duhaime-Ross, they can reproduce those biases at a huge scale.Īnd the worst part? You can’t cross-examine an algorithm and get to the bottom of why it made a specific decision. Depending on the program, those predictions can be consistently wrong in the same way. Then, the company trains an algorithm to make predictions as to how a human grader might score an essay based on that data. There are a bunch of different algorithms, made by a bunch of different companies.īut they’re all made in basically the same way: First, an automated scoring company looks at how human graders behave. The reason it’s so hard to figure out who’s affected by AI grading is because there’s not just one program that’s being used. But here’s what we do know: These programs are being used to grade students of all ages and levels, from high school students to students applying to grad school, from middle school students even down to those in elementary school. And the other problem is that some of the algorithms have been proven by the testing vendors themselves to be biased against people from certain language backgrounds.”įeathers wasn’t able to pin down exactly how many students are affected by this. It looks good from afar but it doesn’t actually mean anything. One is that they can be fooled by any kind of nonsense gibberish sophisticated words. “The algorithms are prone to a couple of flaws. Todd Feathers, who wrote about AI essay grading for Motherboard, called up every state in the country and found that at least 21 states use some form of automated scoring. So can artificial intelligence really teach us to write better? Algorithms are grading student essays across the country. This is where the Spirit fell at Pentecost and became the base of operations. First, the Holy Spirit would come to empower the disciples, and then they’d be His witnesses. Jesus sidesteps their question and tells them what they should expect. Now that Jesus rose from the dead, they expected this to occur now. The disciples had grown up believing that someday the Messiah would come and set Israel free from Rome and all future oppression. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:6–8). He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” The story of Simon the Sorcerer is really about the fulfillment of Jesus’ words, which He spoke back in chapter one: And while we become privy to exciting characters and details, the spread of the gospel is Luke’s focus. Luke wrote the Book of Acts to document the growth of the church. Now let’s jump into the Bible to see what we can discover about this fascinating person! The gospel in Samaria Luke tells us Simon’s story as he describes the gospel moving beyond Jerusalem into the outlying territories.įor an overview of Simon’s story, check out this scene from the Book of Acts film. A quick search online should easily get you this info. Each device model has its own key combo to boot into recovery, as an example for Galaxy S10 it is (Power + Bixby + Volume Up). When Magisk hijacks the recovery, there is a special mechanism to allow you to actually boot into recovery mode. For these devices, you will have to reboot to recovery every time you want Magisk enabled. In the case when your device does not have ramdisk in boot images, Magisk has no choice but to hijack the recovery partition. Also, I can’t use the music stand that came with the Kawai since it mounts on the back of the piano, so have restored the Manhasset 5301 to its original configuration since my modification for the PX-5S three years ago… and it is a loose item that has to be stowed. I can’t do anything about the height (the 32″ desktop is 1½ ” thick), but I think I’m going to cut a little knee relief under the center of the piano and then try to match that bullnose edge with the router even though nobody will ever see it besides Isabelle the cat. I have only two complaints… the key tops are a bit low at 27½ inches and my knees touch the support shelf when I’m playing. Shop carefully for both closed length and travel length, and if you want the locking ones, the best source is McMaster-Carr. The outer frame (against my hand in the photo) is 3 inches wide, and that yellow lever at the right end is the lock release. These were not cheap at $129/pair (early 2016) and closer to $200 in 2023, but I wanted something I could count on. Given the dimensions of keyboard and desk, I went with a high-capacity side-mount full-extension locking slide from McMaster-Carr, good for 500 pounds ( Accuride 9301 heavy-duty slides in various lengths are on Amazon, but most of them are without locks). I am fond of heavy-duty, industrial-scale hardware, so my first decision involved the drawer slides. I do love this thing, but it sure looked huge when I hauled it aboard and stared at it! Fabrication My digital piano in the photo above is a Kawai MP7, which weighs 46 pounds (21 kg) and is a bit bulky at 53 ¼” W x 13 ⅓” D x 6 ¾” H (1352 x 339 x 171 mm). If you clone this for a different keyboard, you’ll probably want to tweak the dimensions. Extended, the piano dominates the space, and the computer keyboard is also on a pull-out drawer so they can be used at the same time.Īny project like this is highly implementation-specific this article includes the details of my own solution, but it was designed with very tight tolerances to make maximum use of available space. This dictated maximum knee clearance to keep the workspace comfortable, and when retracted, it effectively disappears. Gandel also funds Taglit-Birthright Israel, a program that provides free ten-day tours of Israel for young Jews who are “currently unaffiliated with the Jewish community and have never visited Israel.” Announcing his financial support, Gandel declared that “My family strongly believes in supporting a range of programs that can foster and enhance Jewish continuity and identity, and help develop the future leaders in our community.” The Zionist Federation of Australia (led by Leibler’s son Jeremy) thanked Gandel and extoled Birthright Israel as “a critically important Israel program” that serves to “engage many young Jewish adults with the powerful connection to Israel, Judaism and other young Jews they meet during and after the program.” Thus, while seeking to increase Jewish ethnocentrism and ethno-nationalism through his funding of Birthright Israel, Gandel simultaneously funds “ Click Against Hate,” a program specifically designed to reduce White ethnocentrism and promote the virtues of “diversity” and “multiculturalism” among Australian schoolchildren. John Gandel (center right) and ADC chairman Dvir Abramovich (far right) The program is offered free of charge to schools due to this funding. Gandel also finances the Anti-Defamation Commission’s propaganda program for schools “ Click Against Hate” - an “early intervention” program for schoolchildren from Years 5 to 10. Gandel has made large donations to Jewish organizations closely linked to Leibler, such as Australia Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) and the United Israel Appeal. Sydney has fewer Jewish billionaires than Melbourne, although businessman Sir Frank Lowy and apartment mogul Harry Triguboff ranked in the top 10 of the of the 2018 rich list, and Jewish wealth in Sydney is growing rapidly due to “the business success of South African Jewish migrants, most of whom settled in Sydney and Perth from the 1970s to the 1990s.” A long-time pillar of Melbourne’s Jewish establishment and client of Leibler is Jewish shopping center magnate John Gandel who is Australia’s seventh richest person with a fortune estimated at $6.45 billion in 2018. Most of ABL’s wealthy Jewish clientele reside in the wealthy inner suburbs of Melbourne. The lawyers of these New York law firms, which refer many cases to ABL, are said to “feel comfortable dealing with ABL, a firm with origins in the Jewish community that still retains a significant Jewish client base.” ABL has close connections with several major New York firms - especially those established and run by Jews like Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and Skaddan Arps. These clients help make the firm one of Australia’s most profitable. The man topping the rich list, Anthony Pratt, with an estimated fortune of $12.9 billion, is one of them. In 2018, thirty-five of Australia’s wealthiest individuals and families were clients of ABL and 19 of these were Jewish. Of the 200 richest people and families in Australia, around one-in-five are clients of ABL. Leibler has been a partner at the law firm Arnold Bloch Leibler (ABL) for almost fifty years.
